Nakkhu Jail Appeals to Escaped Prisoners Amidst GenZ Protests

Kathmandu: The Nakkhu Jail Administration has called upon all prisoners who escaped on September 9 during the GenZ protests to immediately come into contact with the authorities.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the jail administration has made an urgent appeal for the escaped prisoners to present themselves without delay and comply with existing legal procedures. The appeal, issued on Friday, emphasized the consequences of ignoring the notice, warning that delays could result in harsher punishments and negatively impact social rehabilitation processes.

The statement urged the escaped inmates to engage with the prison administration promptly, in accordance with legal obligations and social responsibilities, to help maintain public peace and order. The jail authority has also committed to providing necessary support and facilitation for the reintegration of the inmates while safeguarding their rights and interests.

The incident involved the release of several inmates, including former Home Minister Rabi Lamchhane, who was detained over a cooperative fraud case. The release occurred amid intense GenZ protests, which facilitated the escape.
