Rangpur: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Moulana Abdul Halim has stated that the nation will not tolerate any excuse to delay the trial of the killers responsible for the martyrs of the July-August uprising. He emphasized the need for the interim government to prioritize reforms, justice, and elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Maulana Abdul Halim delivered his remarks as the chief guest at a discussion hosted by Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium. The event also marked the unveiling of a memorial book titled “Martyrs of the 2nd Independence,” which documents the sacrifices of the martyrs from the uprising.
During the event, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also addressed the audience virtually from the National Press Club in Dhaka. Moulana Abdul Halim stressed the importance of bringing justice to the families of the martyrs and announced the publication of a 10-volume memorial book, with work in progress on two additional volumes.
The memorial book aims to respect the martyrs and preserve the history of the uprising. Moulana Abdul Halim noted that the book would serve as a judicial aid and would be made available to various officials and associations across the country.
He explained the characterization of the July-August uprising as the second independence, highlighting the struggles faced by citizens despite living in an independent country. He underscored the importance of national unity across religious and communal lines and urged for the identification of threats to Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
The event, chaired by Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer ATM Azam Khan, featured additional speakers, including Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee members and representatives of the martyr’s families.
