National Immigration Policy soon: Minister Bhandari


Minister for Labour, Transport and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari has assured of the formulation of National Immigration Policy soon.

At a programme relating to the labour agreement among the Ministry, the International Organisation for Migration and GIZ (German Agency for International Development) here on Friday, the Minister said the draft of the policy has been readied and will be revised on the inputs and recommendations of experts before tabling in the parliament.

Underlining the need for a complete safe package for foreign employment from departure to return, he said the draft policy incorporates clear provisions for addressing existing challenges in the area of immigration.

The policy aims to ensure and promote the rights of foreign immigrants, he said, expressing concerns over growing health complications, mainly kidney-related issues among around 46 per cent of Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf countries due to compulsion of working in high- temperatures.

He also underlined the need to
make foreign employment aspirants technically and linguistically skilled and efficient before their departure to the destination countries.

He said 171 countries in the world serve as labour destination countries for Nepali migrant workers. —
