Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has announced the cancellation of its traditional tea reception on Kojagrat Purnima this year, a significant departure from a practice that has been in place since 2033 BS. This annual event, established by the iconic leader BP Koirala, has been a platform for exchanging festival greetings in the spirit of ‘national unity and reconciliation’.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Chief Secretary of the NC central office, Krishna Prasad Paudel, issued a press statement explaining the decision. The reason behind the cancellation is the national mourning following recent events that have left the country grieving. Paudel emphasized that the entire nation is in a state of sorrow, and several NC party offices have been destroyed. In such circumstances, the party has chosen to prioritize national unity and reconciliation over traditional festivities.
This decision reflects the party’s sensitivity to the current national mood and its commitment to solidarity with the people during this difficult time. The tea reception has historically been a significant event for the NC, symbolizing the party’s dedication to fostering unity and peace among the citizens of Nepal.
