Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized that the Nepali Congress (NC) serves as a center of trust for citizens across all castes, languages, and regions. He addressed this sentiment during the inaugural session of the Third National Convention of the Nepal Rastriya Magar Sangh, held at the NC Party Office in Sanepa.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba stated that the party is committed to empowering indigenous nationalities, Dalits, women, Muslims, and other marginalized communities, while maintaining a focus on nationality, democracy, and socialism. He highlighted the significance of the Magar ethnic group, the largest among Nepal’s indigenous communities, and the establishment of the Magar Sangh in 2064 BS as a crucial step for organizing the Magars around democratic ideologies.
President Deuba urged the Sangh to embrace more responsibility in disseminating the NC’s policies, ideologies, and principles among the Magar community, and to amplify the community’s voice within the party. He mentioned the ‘Kadamjam’ campaign initiated by the Nepali Congress to ensure the rights and participation of the Karnali, Dalits, indigenous, and Madhesi communities, aiming to secure representation from underprivileged communities, regions, and genders within the party.
Furthermore, President Deuba assured support and cooperation to enhance leadership and representation from the Magar community within the party’s hierarchy. He noted the NC-led government’s recognition of Lakhan Thapa as the first martyr, acknowledging his sacrifice in the fight against the Rana regime.
President Deuba reaffirmed the party’s dedication to the effective implementation of achievements attained under the NC’s leadership, including republic, federalism, secularism, and a proportional and inclusive system. The third convention is set to conclude on Saturday with the election of a new working committee.
