Nepal and China Forge New Ties with Bilateral Agreements.


Kathmandu: Nepal and China have signed various bilateral agreements in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. PM Oli is presently on a four-day official visit to China, beginning Monday. The signing of agreements followed a bilateral meeting between the premiers of both neighbours.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the documents signed and exchanged by both sides include an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, a Letter of Exchange on the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, an MoU on Trade Promotion Cooperation, and a Protocol on Requirements for Thermally Processed Buffalo Meat Products to be exported from Nepal to China. Additionally, an MoU on the Development Plan (2024-2029) and a Letter of Exchange on Cash Assistance were also part of the agreements.

Moreover, other signed instruments include a Handover Certificate of the Completion of the Reconstruction of the Nine-storey Basantapur Tower, an MoU on Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers, and an MoU between Public
Service Broadcasting Nepal Television and China Media Group, as stated by Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Dhakal.

Spokesperson Dhakal further elaborated that the two sides engaged in discussions concerning the expansion of connectivity, industrial and infrastructure development, and cooperation in sectors such as health, agriculture, trade, tourism, and investment. They also addressed issues of science and technology, sports, disaster management, and people-to-people relations, alongside enhancing mutual cooperation in poverty alleviation.
