Janakpur: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the role of Nepal Police as servants of the people, rather than rulers, during the inauguration of the newly-constructed office building of the Madesh Province Police. The Prime Minister cautioned police personnel to avoid practices reminiscent of the Rana regime and Panchayat era, where people were charged with fake allegations to protect ruling interests.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli highlighted that some elements are acting anarchically and attempting to spread illusions of a new force. He criticized these anarchists for their lack of contribution to establishing democracy in Nepal and stressed the importance of society and the nation in punishing dishonesty. PM Oli advocated for unity among democratic forces to defend and sustain democracy, which he noted was achieved through the people’s significant contributions and sacrifices.
PM Oli also urged the Nepal Police to diligently address issues such as robbery, smuggling, human trafficking, and revenue leakage. He assured that the current government, formed through the collaboration of the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), is committed to ensuring stability, law and order, and good governance while tackling corruption.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the Madhes Province Government for constructing the new building to enhance the Nepal Police’s physical infrastructure. Chief Minister of Madhes Province Satish Kumar Singh acknowledged the challenges in maintaining law and order due to delays in police administration adjustments, while Chief of Nepal Police Deepak Thapa reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining order with high morale.
