Nepali Congress Leaders Advocate for Special General Convention

Kathmandu: Leaders of the Nepali Congress, advocating for a special general convention, organized a significant gathering today in Thapagaun, New Baneshwor. This assembly was held by a faction of the party dissatisfied with the current leadership’s handling of issues, particularly the indecision surrounding the party’s 15th general convention.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the gathering included a large turnout of general convention representatives, central committee members, province-level leaders, regional representatives, and other discontented leaders and cadres. The gathering aimed to address the party’s internal challenges and push for a more democratic process within the organization.

During the event, leader Devraj Chalise criticized the party leadership for neglecting crucial organizational decisions and emphasized the necessity of a special general convention to reinforce the party’s internal democracy. Chalise stated, “There is no alternative to holding a special general convention to strengthen NC’s role and address dissatisfaction within the party.” He also revealed that signatures from 2,488 general convention representatives nationwide had been collected on October 14, demanding a special convention, and were submitted to acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka.

Prominent figures such as Guru Raj Ghimire, NC Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun, and former lawmaker Jagadish Narsingh KC were present, along with NC central committee members Ajay Babu Siwakoti and Pratima Gautam. These leaders called for the immediate convening of a special general convention to reform and strengthen the party organization.
