Kathmandu:Nepali Hindus are observing Kojagrat Poornima today, marking the final day of the fifteen-day Bada Dashain festival. The day is celebrated with rituals honoring Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and abundance.
According to National News Agency RSS, the Bada Dashain festival formally concludes with Kojagrat Poornima, where devotees perform sacred rituals in the evening, honoring Mahalaxmi in their homes and maintaining vigilance throughout the night. It is traditionally believed that the goddess Mahalaxmi travels around the world on this night to see who is observing the vigil, bestowing blessings on those who stay awake.
On this day, the practice of bestowing and receiving Tika and Jamara, which are integral to the Dashain festival, comes to an end. The Jamara cultivated at the Dashainghar and Kot since Ghatasthapana is discarded according to religious customs. Additionally, worship is conducted at Swoyambhu Chaitya, and a nocturnal vigil is observed by lighting the Mahadeep lamp.
The committee-approved calendar notes that special Tulasi veneration, following the Kartik ritual bath, will begin on Monday. The Akashdeepdan ceremony will also commence on Monday evening.
