Nepalis in Cambodia Urged to Return Home by June 12


Bangkok: The Embassy of Nepal in Thailand has issued a notice urging Nepalis living illegally in Cambodia to return home by June 12. The notice warns that those remaining without legal status may face immediate arrest under Cambodia’s new legal provisions.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Embassy revealed that 602 Nepalis currently in Cambodia have not renewed their visas and have not responded to the Embassy’s repeated attempts to assist with their repatriation. The Embassy has offered to waive visa fees and penalties to facilitate their return.



The Embassy further warned that foreigners who fail to return home could face fines of up to 500,000 US Dollars and lifelong imprisonment, depending on the nature of their offenses, as per Cambodia’s new laws.
