Next Polls to Be Held in Free, Fair, Neutral Manner: Adviser Sakhawat


Dhaka: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain today stated that the incumbent Election Commission (EC) expressed its intention to conduct the upcoming general election in a free, fair, and neutral manner. He emphasized the roles of returning officers and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, noting their dedication and competence.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Sakhawat, who is also a former election commissioner and the adviser to the ministries of food and land, made these remarks following his participation in the DC conference held for the second consecutive day. He addressed the media shortly after the first session of the second day of the DC Conference -2025 at the Osmani Smrity Auditorium, highlighting the importance of the DCs’ recommendations on river navigability, naval security, and terminal management.



In response to questions from journalists, Brigadier Sakhawat mentioned that the Ministry of Labour has launched several projects focused on child labor and their rehabilitation. He detailed the establishment of committees dedicated to rehabilitation in each division and district, urging the Ministry of Labour to enhance its efforts in this area.



Furthermore, the adviser noted that instructions were given to bolster the operations of mobile courts. Regarding sand theft, particularly from locations such as Manikganj, Munshiganj, and the Meghna rivers, DCs have been directed to implement preventive measures. Senior officials, including secretaries from relevant ministries, were present during the conference.
