Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has announced the names of the recipients of this year’s awards and prizes for their contributions to the protection and promotion of human rights. A meeting of the recommendation committee, chaired by NHRC Member Manoj Duwadi, made this decision earlier today.
According to National News Agency Nepal, NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokhrel stated that the decision was made to confer the Late Dayaram Pariyar Memorial Award-2082 on Shankar Limbu of Ilam. Additionally, Menuka Dhungana from Achham district is set to receive the Human Rights Prize-2082.
Shankar Limbu has been recognized for his relentless activism in advocating for the rights of indigenous nationalities, while Menuka Dhungana, an Achham-based journalist, has been acknowledged for her efforts in highlighting human rights issues, women’s rights, and other concerns of marginalized communities through the media.
Both the award and the prize include a cash reward of Rs 50,000 and a letter of appreciation. The official presentation of the titles will take place on December 10, coinciding with the celebration of International Human Rights Day.
