Lalitpur: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held a discussion with Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Ashok Raj Sigdel, on the peace and security situation in the country in the aftermath of the Gen-Z protest. The meeting took place at the NHRC central office in Pulchow, Lalitpur.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the human rights body engaged with the Nepali Army chief to address concerns regarding peace, security, and human rights. The NHRC also inquired about the status of political leaders currently under the protection of the Nepali Army. NHRC’s Spokesperson, Dr. Tikaram Pokhrel, stated that the commission urged the army to uphold the values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law when evaluating future security challenges.
The NHRC is actively gathering information on the safety and health conditions of those under the army’s protection amid the Gen-Z protests. Additionally, the commission is collecting data on the status of Gen-Z representatives, the families of the deceased and injured, and other affected individuals and children. Meetings with these groups are being conducted to understand their situations better, as noted by spokesperson Pokhrel.
