No Security Threat Over Int’l Mother Language Day Observance: DMP Chief

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today said there is no security threat over observation of the International Mother Language Day-2025. “We don’t see any security threat on the occasion of the Ekushey February celebration,” he said after inspecting the overall security arrangement in and around the Central Shaheed Minar here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP commissioner stated that they have implemented a three to four-tier security arrangement surrounding the Central Shaheed Minar. “Three to four-tier security measures has been taken at the Central Shahid Minar and its adjoining areas like every year for peaceful observation of the International Mother Language Day,” he said. The police personnel, along with other forces, will be vigilant to ensure no untoward incidents occur during the observation. He further explained that the security arrangements will remain in place until 3 pm tomorrow.

As part of the security measures taken by the DMP, archways have been installed in the areas, and everyone entering the Central Shahid Minar premises will be searched with metal detectors. “We have taken necessary measures to ensure that no one can enter with flammable materials, explosives or anything like that,” he added. Additionally, various mobile teams will be deployed within a radius of one kilometer around the Central Shahid Minar to make the security foolproof. The DMP commissioner also requested everyone to maintain discipline while putting floral wreaths to pay respect to the language heroes.

Regarding arrangements by the Traffic Department for the day, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar mentioned that seven points will be closed due to the large gathering of people around the Central Shahid Minar. The points include Shahbagh Crossing, Nilkhet Crossing, Shahidullah Hall Crossing, High Court Crossing, Chankharpul Crossing, Palashi Crossing, and Bakshibazar Crossing. Pedestrians can use the route from Palashi Crossing to Bhaskarya Crossing, Jagannath Hall Crossing to enter the Central Shaheed Minar, and exit through Romna Crossing-Doyel Chattar Crossing after paying homage.

The entire nation will pay respect to the language martyrs by placing floral wreaths as done every year. The Palashi Gate of Dhaka University will open for the public at approximately 12:40 am.
