Gorkha: The northern belt of Gorkha district has witnessed an unusual snowfall in early October, a phenomenon typically expected in the winter season. The Samdo area of Chumnumbri Rural Municipality-1 experienced snowfall on October 6, marking a rare occurrence for the autumn months.
According to National News Agency Nepal, local resident Nima Gyalgen Lama noted that the snowfall has disrupted normal life in the area. Lama highlighted that this season’s snowfall is heavier compared to the usual winter snow, affecting potato farming in the region. However, he mentioned that the crops have not been severely impacted due to the less intense nature of the snowfall.
Lama also reported that the snow began to melt on Tuesday afternoon, aided by moderate sunlight. Farmers are anticipating harvesting their crops as soon as the weather conditions improve.
Samdo village, situated at an altitude of 3,890 meters above sea level, primarily produces potatoes and buckwheat. Tourism remains the main economic activity in the area. The snowfall has brought excitement to tourists as the expedition season to Mt. Manaslu has commenced.
