Dhaka: Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a drug peddler along with 38 kilograms of ganja and seized a covered van in the capital’s Jatrabari area. The arrestee was identified as Md Sumon, 30, a driver by profession who has been engaged in drug peddling for a long time, said a DMP press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, a team of DB-Mirpur division conducted a drive on Thursday at 04:45 am and arrested Sumon by intercepting his covered van as he was set to dispatch the ganja at Zorakhamba area on Dhaka-Chattogram highway. On the basis of his confessional statement, DB recovered the ganja from behind the driver seat, kept inside two plastic sacks.
The estimated price of the ganja was TK 7.60 lakh. DB also seized the covered van for using transportation of the ganja. A case was filed with Jatrabari police station under the Narcotic Control Act.
