A court here today sentenced a man to death for killing a mother and her pregnant daughter in 2022.
Additional District and Session Judge Ummey Sharaban Tahura pronounced the verdict in presence of convict – Al Jobayer Swapnil, son of Alauddin of Paikpara – in a crowded courtroom.
According to the prosecution, the convict killed Ruma Chakrabarti, 46, and her daughter Ritu Chakrabarti on March 1 in 2022 in Dal Patti area of Nitaiganj of the district.
Police arrested Swapnil in connection with a case filed over the killing of the duo.
He also gave a confessional statement before the court.
After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against the accused.
