Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has announced that the process for the registration and renewal of online media will soon commence from the Department of Information and Broadcasting (DIB). The initiative is aimed at alleviating the difficulties faced by journalists in this regard.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a recent inspection visit to the DIB, Minister Kharel emphasized the importance of expediting the registration process, stating that it is likely to begin before the Tihar festival. He assured that the department is fully prepared to facilitate this process, addressing the procedural adjustments necessitated by recent monsoon-related disasters and the Dashain festival. The minister also mentioned that the process would advance swiftly once decisions are finalized in the upcoming cabinet meeting and published in the Nepal Gazette.
Minister Kharel highlighted the efficiency of the Department of Information and Broadcasting, noting its quick service provision compared to other government agencies. He praised the department for its commitment to assisting the public and journalists, despite limited resources, and emphasized the importance of service quality and conduct towards service-seekers. The minister reiterated the government’s intent to start online media renewal from the DIB as part of its broader commitment to good governance.
In addition to media registration, Minister Kharel addressed other government priorities. He highlighted the government’s responsibility to oversee elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and its commitment to investigating damage caused during the Gen-Z movement, ensuring punitive measures are taken. The minister also underscored efforts to enhance service delivery within the ministry’s purview.
Secretary at the Ministry, Radhika Aryal, expressed optimism about resolving issues related to online media registration and meeting journalists’ demands. Meanwhile, Uday Bahadur Ranamagar, Director General of the Department, affirmed the department’s ongoing efforts to support journalists’ rights and facilitate their work.
