‘Operation Devil Hunt’ to Continue Indefinitely, Says Home Secretary

Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani announced today that the joint forces’ “Operation Devil Hunt” will persist as long as necessary to apprehend individuals attempting to destabilize the country. In a press briefing held at the Home Ministry’s conference room, Ghani emphasized the operation’s goal to neutralize threats originating from specific areas.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ghani explained that all forces involved have been briefed to ensure the operation is conducted in a focused manner, maintaining law and order while protecting human rights. He stated that the police will lead the operation, with military support to uphold order, following the military’s acquisition of magistracy power after the August 5 changeover.

The Home Adviser highlighted the importance of adhering to legal principles and safeguarding human rights during the operation. “We have to work with the spirit of the law,” he said, stressing the motivation of law enforcers to follow legal guidelines with a special focus on human rights protection.

Ghani expressed a commitment to fostering good governance practices to benefit future generations. He mentioned efforts to prevent the emergence of illegal detention facilities, known as Aynaghar, and to ensure that government personnel can perform their duties effectively.

A workshop on human rights and environmental protection, involving 150 representatives from law enforcement agencies and district magistrates, is scheduled for February 11. Meetings will also be held nationwide over the next month to further these efforts.

Addressing further inquiries, Ghani stated that while defeated revolutionary forces will not be protected, cruelty will not be tolerated. He also mentioned ongoing moral counseling for the police to enhance their effectiveness.

Ghani declined to comment on the number of arrests made since the operation’s commencement on Saturday. However, he confirmed the arrest of a deputy inspector general of police and three police supers prior to the start of “Operation Devil Hunt.”
