Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized that the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) should not be used as a platform for political recruitment. Speaking at a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Trust, PM Karki asserted that appointments within such religious institutions should be reserved for individuals with a strong religious background.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Karki expressed her viewpoint that political cadres are not suitable for roles within the Trust, as religious organizations have unique rules, norms, and traditional beliefs that need to be preserved. She highlighted the importance of maintaining the cultural integrity of such institutions, stating, “Religious organisations have their own rules and norms as well as traditional beliefs and customs. They reflect our native culture and we should protect these norms and values.”
PM Karki further elaborated on the significance of Pashupatinath as a devotional site for Hindus worldwide. She stressed that appointing political figures to positions within the Trust undermines the sanctity of the institution. Her remarks underscore the need for religious entities to remain focused on their spiritual and cultural roles, rather than becoming entangled in political activities.
