Parliamentary Committee Directs Government to Ensure Safe Environment for Elections

Kathmandu: The Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee under the National Assembly instructed the government to create a favorable environment for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. The directive emphasizes the necessity for the elections to be conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the committee’s meeting, led by Chairperson Sonam Gyalgen Sherpa, highlighted the urgency of addressing security concerns. The government was tasked with retrieving weapons stolen during the Gen-Z protests and ensuring the return of escaped prisoners, aiming to boost the morale of security personnel.

The committee engaged in discussions with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal about preparations and the current security situation for the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. Committee members underscored the importance of conducting the elections on schedule while maintaining law and order.

In response to inquiries from National Assembly members, Home Minister Aryal assured that the government is committed to maintaining security during the elections. He promised to provide necessary logistics for security forces and mentioned ongoing efforts to manage resources effectively.

Regarding the political climate, Aryal remarked that the government seeks to address issues with political parties through dialogue rather than stringent measures.
