Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today called upon the new police personnel to perform their professional duties in a neutral manner to win public trust. “Work neutrally to gain public trust. If police are trusted by the people through their performance, they will get more cooperation from the masses in maintaining the law and order,” he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, he was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the orientation course for Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch at the Police Headquarters. Describing the new police officers as the future leaders of the police force, the police chief said, “The prestige of the police force depends on you. Therefore, you have to set an example for others by performing your duties honestly.”
Baharul Alam mentioned that the recent anti-discrimination movement has created an opportunity to re-evaluate the public’s expectations towards the police. “As the guardian of country’s law and order, the police have to perform their duties professionally,” he said. He emphasized that policing is a challenging profession and the new officers must acquire skills to face various challenges through training. “You have to acquire knowledge about constitutional rights, human rights, and new laws,” he added.
The police chief also highlighted the importance of modern technological knowledge and skills in controlling diversified crimes in the current era of technology. Additional IG (HR M) ANM Khaled, DIG (HR) Kazi Zia Uddin, and concerned officers attended the event, among others. A total of 84 officers have joined the 43rd BCS (Police) batch as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), out of which 78 are men and six are women.
