Phulahar: The travelers to the Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama, a circumambulation of the Mithila region, are arriving in Phulahar of Madhuwani district in India today, marking the third day of their pilgrimage.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the pilgrims are engaged in a two-week-long journey that began with a rest in Hanumangadhi of Dhanusa district on the first day, followed by a stop in Madhuwani of India on the second day. The pilgrimage, often referred to as the mahakumbha or grand religious fair, sees the residents of Matihani welcoming these spiritual travelers with feasts and providing accommodations.
Beyond food and lodging, the Matihani community is also responsible for arranging security and health services for the pilgrims. Four designated areas are set up for these charitable activities, with preparations nearing completion to host the visitors. The designated rest stops for the night include Matihani, Jaleshwor, Madai, Dhrubakund, and Kanchanban.
The Madhyamiki Parikrama covers a 133-km stretch that includes Nepal’s Mahottari and Dhanusha districts, as well as parts of the Madhuwani district in India. It is believed that this pilgrimage retraces the footsteps of God Ram and Goddess Sita from the Treta Yuga.
The Broader Janakpur Area Development Trust, along with other benevolent individuals, have contributed donations to support the management and well-being of the holy travelers during this spiritual journey.
