Khulna: A cleanliness campaign has been launched in the city aimed at making it free from the wastes of plastic and polythene. World Vision, a non-government development organisation, will conduct the campaign with the theme of “Building healthy Khulna city through ensuring proper management of plastic and polythene wastes”.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the campaign was inaugurated by Additional Commissioner of Khulna Division, Hussain Shawkat, at the C and B Colony playground. During the opening ceremony, Shawkat called upon all concerned parties to ensure the campaign’s success.
The event was chaired by the Secretary of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Sharif Asif Rahman, and featured speeches from several notable figures. Among the speakers were Director of the Department of Environment (DoE) Sadiqul Islam, KCC Chief Waste Management Officer Engineer Abdul Aziz, and Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shammiul Islam.
Additional Commissioner Shawkat emphasized the importance of collective effort from the city’s residents to transform Khulna into an environment-friendly and beautiful city. The campaign will target roads, markets, colonies, bus stands, educational institutions, and other densely populated areas to make them clean, disaster-resilient, green, and healthy.
