Kathmandu: Preparations for the official visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China from December 2-5 are in full swing, following an invitation from his Chinese counterpart, Li Qiang. Anticipation is high among citizens of both countries that Prime Minister Oli’s visit will enhance bilateral ties at both governmental and public levels.
According to National News Agency Nepal, senior leaders from the ruling parties-CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress-are actively discussing various agendas, including the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with national interest at the forefront. Prime Minister Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba recently held discussions on the upcoming visit, emphasizing its significance.
Further discussions were conducted with members of the delegation accompanying Prime Minister Oli to China. During these meetings, Prime Minister Oli urged delegates to take an active role in realizing the mission’s goals of deepening bilateral relations. He expressed confidence in the visit’s succes
s and its potential to enhance Nepal’s image and strengthen friendly ties with China.
Officiating Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, along with chief of protocol Bishnu Prasad Gautam and Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Krishna Prasad Dhakal, provided insights into the bilateral relations and diplomatic protocols, including the BRI framework. Spokesman Dhakal highlighted anticipated discussions with China on cooperation in connectivity, investment, trade, tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
Earlier, Prime Minister Oli consulted former Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers on November 25 to prepare for the visit. The cabinet approved the visit and delegation on November 28. During the visit, Prime Minister Oli will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and hold talks with Premier Li Qiang. Additionally, he will meet Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress, and address events at Peking University and the Nepal-China Bu
siness Forum.
Prime Minister Oli will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada, and members of the Federal Parliament.
