Kathmandu: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, has announced that preparations are underway to include all Nepali citizens under the social security fund (SSF).
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Bhandari addressed the House of Representatives, responding to queries related to his ministry. He stated that necessary arrangements are being implemented to ensure alignment with the SSF. Currently, 1.835 million Nepali migrant workers have already joined the SSF, and he emphasized the need for support from all sectors to extend this coverage to all Nepalis, including those in the informal sector.
The government has made strides in securing employment conditions for Nepalis abroad. An agreement has been signed with the United Arab Emirates, setting a minimum salary for Nepali workers. Additionally, a bilateral agreement with Saudi Arabia is in the works. Minister Bhandari highlighted the government’s commitment to sending skilled or semi-skilled workers for foreign employment and mentioned ongoing preparations to digitalize the labour and employment sector.
