Preservation of Languages Should Begin at Home: Minister Gurung.

Damauli: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has emphasized the importance of preserving languages at home. During the inauguration of the 12th general convention of Tamu Bidhyarthi Chhoja Dhi in Damauli, Minister Gurung highlighted the integral relationship between language and culture, asserting that the loss of a language leads to the extinction of its associated culture.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung urged parents to foster a home environment where communication occurs in their mother tongue to aid in language preservation. As the government’s spokesperson, he reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the languages of all ethnic communities. Minister Gurung also advocated for youth engagement in self-entrepreneurship within the country, emphasizing the need for technical education that supports independence.

Minister Gurung also addressed the Gurung community, pointing out that the traditional ‘Lahure’ culture among Gurung
youths has hindered their representation in Nepal’s civil service, security, and banking sectors. He encouraged Gurung organizations to engage more actively in national politics, positioning these groups as pivotal for the community’s empowerment.

Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Tanahun, Shantiraman Wagle, supported Minister Gurung’s call, urging collective efforts for the preservation of languages and cultures. Meanwhile, figures like Manraj Gurung, General Secretary of Tamu Yuwa Chhoja Dhi, and student leaders Pravin Shrestha, Rajesh Shrestha, and Sudin Poudel, echoed the sentiment, encouraging Gurung youths to envision their futures within Nepal.

The convention’s coordinator, Bishwaraj Gurung, noted that the three-day event aims to select new leadership, with 1,500 representatives participating. Established in 1996, the organization continues to play a crucial role in fostering cultural preservation and community solidarity.
