Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has today departed for Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in the Second World Summit for Social Development, which will be held from November 4 to 6.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel is leading a 12-member Nepali delegation at the Summit upon the invitation of the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The send-off at Tribhuvan International Airport included Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. Special-class government officials, heads of security bodies, and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal were also present to see off the President. A contingent of the Nepali Army honored President Paudel with a guard of honour on this occasion.
President Paudel is scheduled to address the Plenary Meetings and the High-Level Roundtable of the Summit on November 4. He is also set to meet with the UN Secretary General and the Amir of Qatar. On the sidelines of the Summit, the President will engage with various world leaders attending the event. The Summit aims to foster a shared commitment to cooperation and assistance for social development and is expected to address issues like development inequalities, demographic imbalances, and the impacts of technology on society.
The First World Summit for Social Development took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995, and the current Second Summit is being held after 30 years. President Paudel is accompanied by his spouse, Sabita Paudel, media expert Kiran Kumar Pokhrel, the Secretary of the President’s Office, and other senior officials from the Government of Nepal. The President and his delegation are expected to return to Kathmandu on November 6.
