Kathmandu: Work is on in order to open the Prithvi Highway by this evening. Vehicular movement at the Muglin-Narayangadh section has come to a complete standstill for the past 40 hours due to a landslide.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the spokesperson at the Department of Roads, Prabhat Kumar Jha, stated that problems have surfaced mainly at the Muglin-Narayangadh section along the Prithvi Highway and the Araniko Highway. Efforts are underway to resume traffic at Muglin-Narayangadh section till this evening. Similarly, works are on to bring Araniko Highway into operation within three days by removing landslide debris if heavy rainfall does not take place.
A large number of passengers have been stranded due to road obstruction following the landslide. The Department reported that 10 highways, including Prithvi Highway, Araniko Highway, Thori-Bhandara-Makekhu, Galchhi-Trishuli-Betrabati-Mailung-Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi, Rani-Biratnagar-Itahari-Dharan-Dhankuta-Hile, and Leghuwaghat-Tulingtar-Khandbari-Num-Kimathanka (Koshi Highway), among others, are completely closed.
The Department added that one-way traffic has resumed on 168 highways.
