Kathmandu: The investigation committee on the purchase of the Nepal Telecom billing system has completed and submitted its report. Former secretary and coordinator of the committee, Maniram Gelal, officially handed over the report to Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel highlighted that the committee was formed to conduct an internal review within the ministry. He assured stakeholders that the report would not disrupt the ongoing procurement process of the billing system at Nepal Telecom. He emphasized that Nepal Telecom maintains decision-making autonomy, provided it operates within legal frameworks.
Minister Kharel further explained that the study report was prepared as a reference following a letter of concern from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) regarding the procurement. The ministry plans to carefully review the report to enhance future procurement processes.
Gelal, the probe panel coordinator, clarified that the study report did not affect the confidential bid evaluation related to Nepal Telecom’s billing system procurement. He noted that the report includes suggestions for Nepal Telecom on improving its competitive market positioning while ensuring the security and privacy of customer data.
