Rukum West Jeep Accident Update: Death Toll Reaches Eight


Rukum west: The death toll from the jeep accident that occurred in the interior road section at Banfikot rural municipality-7, Lisne in Rukum West has reached eight. Seven persons died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries while being transported to the District Hospital Salle. The jeep, registered as Ra 1 Ja 422, was traveling from the district headquarters Khalanga to Aathbiskot municipality-2, Syalakhadi, when it met with the accident on Friday evening.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Kamala Wali, 16-year-old Tekjang Budha, 15-year-old Dilmaya Budha, 17-year-old Manika Wali, 18-year-old Sharmila BK, 22-year-old Gopal Wali, 15-year-old Kalpana Nepal from Aathbisokot Municipality, and 28-year-old Sabita Bik from Aathbiskot municipality-1. This information was provided by Police Inspector Hari Prasad Pun, Information Officer at the Rukum Paschim District Police Office.

Police Inspector Pun also reported that 10 people were injured in the a
ccident. Among the injured are 17-year-old Sirjana Budha, 15-year-old Sapna Nepal, 18-year-old Juna Budha, 17-year-old Sangita Budha, and 19-year-old Shanti Budha from Aathbiskot Municipality. The list of injured also includes 17-year-old Anjana Airi, 20-year-old Mahima Oli, 17-year-old Manisha Thapa, 15-year-old Savita Bik, and the vehicle driver, 34-year-old Topjang Budha.

Nine of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the District Hospital in Salle, while 18-year-old Juna Budha has been referred to Nepalgunj for further medical care. The jeep reportedly fell approximately 700 meters below the road, and the accident might have been caused by overloading and narrow roads.
