Doha: Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel during his visit to Qatar’s capital, Doha, where both leaders are attending the ‘Second World Summit for Social Development’.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the discussions between the two leaders focused on the implementation of Copenhagen commitments, social development, peace, and social justice, as well as the attainment of shared goals for sustainable development. President Paudel expressed Nepal’s commitment to closely collaborating with the United Nations to achieve these objectives.
President Paudel also shared updates on Nepal’s political landscape, noting that a general election has been scheduled for March 5 following the dissolution of the House of Representatives. He emphasized Nepal’s efforts to ensure that the election is conducted in a free and impartial manner, expressing confidence that the outcome would provide a political solution and pave the way for good governance, development, and prosperity.
Additionally, President Paudel highlighted the need for international support in addressing climate change. Despite Nepal’s minimal contributions to carbon emissions, he stressed the importance of assistance for adaptation and mitigation of the adverse effects of climate change.
