Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today urged researchers to record information about every incident, including injustice, oppression, and murder in Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year tenure. “Every incident of Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule needs to be recorded so that none becomes a monster after coming to power,” he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqul made the call while addressing a book’s cover unveiling ceremony of Professor Md Shah Alam’s ‘Sera Songkolon: Hridoye July-36’ at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) as the chief guest. Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing Foyez Ahammad also spoke at the event.
Recalling the brutality of the July uprising in 2024, Shafiqul stated it is necessary to record information about the murders committed against students and the public who opposed discrimination throughout July and August. He noted that there are many books on events in Germany during World War II, suggesting that the events of the 15 years of the previous Sheikh Hasina government should also be preserved as history.
Shafiqul Alam highlighted the misrule of Sheikh Hasina’s government, mentioning that law enforcement agencies have turned ordinary people into militants for the sake of promotion. He also cited that about 500 students and people lost their eyesight during the July-August movement and many faced legal challenges, forcing them to relocate and seek livelihoods through driving professions using Uber, Pathao, or rickshaws. He emphasized that this information should be preserved for future reference.
