Gamgadhi:Mugu Twenty underprivileged girls from the Dalit community in Mugu have been awarded scholarships by the Human Rights and Peace Society, amounting to a total of Rs 2 lakh. Each recipient received Rs 10,000.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the scholarships were given to students from ten different schools during the annual general meeting of the Shanti Samaj Mugu branch, held in Gamgadhi. The event was attended by Sarita Poudel, the deputy director of the society, and was led by Mugu branch president Chitra Bahadur Malla.
Contributions to the event came from the society’s general secretary Prakash Shahi, Surkhet branch president SR Pandey, secretary Resham Bahadur Bhandari, and others. They highlighted the society’s efforts toward climate justice and promoting harmony.
Over the past three years, the society has awarded Rs 2.7 million in scholarships to girls in the Karnali region under the motto ‘Educate daughters Increase dignity.’ This year’s scholarships were funded by the interest from a revolving fund established by the society in 2082 BS.
