Kathmandu: The Socialist International has condemned the violent attack on Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister, and his wife Dr Arzu Rana Deuba.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Socialist International, which has members from 91 political parties in 83 countries, issued a statement condemning the physical violence against political figures, including the Deuba couple, during the protests on September 8.
The president of the Socialist International, Pedro S¡nchez, expressed concern regarding the incident in a statement. He offered condolences to all those who died during the protests, extended sympathy to the grieving families, and wished for the swift recovery of the injured.
The Socialist International has expressed solidarity with the Nepali Congress party, which is also its member, in this challenging moment, with the expectation that a peaceful dialogue will provide a way out without delay and in accordance with democratic principles.
