Speakers Emphasize Need to Combat Misinformation

Kathmandu: Speakers at a programme have stressed the need of staying aware of fake news and misinformation. The misinformation is made viral on digital platforms, especially during the crises, so further alertness is imperative, they added.

According to National News Agency Nepal, they reminded that much misinformation was spread during the Gen-Z protest. At a programme on ‘impact of fake news and misinformation’ organized by the Nepal FM Network in the federal capital on Sunday, National Assembly Member Gopal Bhattarai said the spread of fake news and misinformation created a huge panic.

Another NA Member, Ganga Belbase, argued the fake news went viral as the bill on regulation of social network was not brought on time. General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Ram Prasad Dahal, viewed time has come to regulate the activities that provoke dissemination of misinformation.
