Chattogram: The World Radio Day was celebrated in Chattogram as elsewhere in Bangladesh with a call for airing and disseminating time-benefiting programs to play a proactive role in raising awareness about the disastrous impacts of climate change. Bangladesh Betar Chattogram Centre organized elaborate programs to mark the day, aligning with this year’s theme, “Radio and Climate Change.”
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin inaugurated the day’s program by releasing balloons at the Betar Bhaban premises in the city’s Agrabad commercial area. A rally led by Dr. Ziauddin was held, featuring participation from senior government officials, Betar centre officials, artists, and technicians.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Md. Ziauddin highlighted how Betar, under the banner of Swadin Bangla Betar Kendra, played a significant role during the Liberation War in 1971. He emphasized that Bangladesh Betar continues to serve as a vital organ of the government by disseminating activities aimed at public welfare and enhancing public awareness among common people.
Dr. Ziauddin urged Betar officials and artists to develop innovative programs to educate people in vulnerable areas, especially in coastal regions, about the havoc and impact of climate change. Betar Chattogram Centre Director Md. Mahfuzul Haque presided over the function, with speeches from Md. Shahidul Haque, associate professor of Communication and Journalism at Chittagong University, Zahidul Karim Kochi, member secretary of Chattogram Press Club, and Betar Regional News Controller Molla Md. Abdul Hamid, among others.
