Kathmandu: The Supreme Court Bar Association has demanded that the government immediately postpone the decision to ban certain social media platforms. The association has expressed concerns about the impact of such a ban on the medium of expression and communication for the general populace.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Supreme Court Bar Secretary Raman Kumar Karna issued a statement urging the government to reconsider its decision. The Bar Association emphasized the importance of social media as a vital tool for communication and expression. Additionally, the statement highlighted the need to address the grievances of those affected by the ongoing protests, urging the government to provide free medical treatment to the injured and appropriate compensation to the families of the deceased.
The statement from the Supreme Court Bar drew attention to the recent unfortunate events during protests and agitations led by the ‘Gen-Z’ generation across the country. These protests were aimed at combating corruption, irregularities, and other societal issues. The Bar Association noted the tragic loss of life and injuries sustained by protesters, underscoring the urgency of their demands for governmental action and sensitivity towards the protesters’ concerns.
