Swiss Ambassador Engages with Nepal’s Energy Minister on Bilateral Cooperation


Kathmandu: Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, Dr. Danielle Meuwly, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, at his office in Singha Durbar today. During the meeting, Ambassador Meuwly congratulated Minister Ghising and extended best wishes for a successful term.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the discussions between Ambassador Meuwly and Minister Ghising focused on the current implementation status of projects supported by the Swiss government, as well as potential areas for future collaboration. Key topics included Swiss investment, bilateral cooperation, and short and long-term support strategies.



Minister Ghising expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s assistance in Nepal’s development. He highlighted the government’s main priorities following the Gen-Z movement, which include conducting elections, reconstructing public and governmental structures damaged during the movement, and establishing good governance to inspire the youth.



Minister Ghising also requested Swiss support in providing necessary training to create employment through small industries, promoting electric vehicles, encouraging the use of electricity as a domestic fuel, adopting Switzerland’s tunnel technology in road transport, and advancing green hydrogen energy initiatives.



Currently, Swiss-supported projects in Nepal include small irrigation programs, bridge construction, technical assistance for the Siddhababa Tunnel, and employment-oriented skill development training. Ambassador Meuwly reiterated Switzerland’s readiness to assist Nepal in the energy and infrastructure development sectors.
