Dhaka: Tanzid Hasan Tamim believes Liton Das won’t take long time to make a strong comeback in the national team. The selection panel dropped Liton from the Champions Trophy-bound squad following his poor run of form and his axe made Tanzid a regular starter with Soumya Sarka at the top of the batting order.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, both Liton and Tanzid are playing in the same team, Dhaka Capital, in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Tanzid expressed his admiration for Liton, stating, “We all know how good he (Liton) is as a batter. I myself also a big fan of him. So it’s little bit disappointing for me that he is not in the squad.”
Liton’s recent performance in ODIs has been underwhelming, scoring only 13 runs in his last seven matches, including three ducks, which significantly contributed to his exclusion from the squad. However, shortly after being dropped, Liton delivered a stunning performance, scoring an unbeaten 125 off 55 balls against Durbar Rajshahi, leading Dhaka Cap
ital to a 149-run victory. Tanzid also performed well in that match, scoring 108 off 64 balls.
Tanzid was impressed by Liton’s innings, stating, “Some of his shots were eye-catching and treat to watch. I am very lucky to have witnessed the innings from very close.” He added, “But when you won’t play well, you will have to be dropped. We all have to accept it. We all know Liton Das has the ability to make a strong comeback very quickly.”
Despite the discussions surrounding the Champions Trophy, Tanzid emphasized his focus on the BPL, saying, “There will be expectation on me and on everyone to play well in the Champions Trophy. We all try to play well but sometimes we fail to live up to the expectation. At this moment, my focus is on BPL. I want to play well here and then I will think about Champions Trophy.”
