Mustang: Home Secretary Rameshwor Dangal and Director General of the Department of Immigration, Ramchandra Tiwari, recently conducted an inspection visit to the Korala Check Point along the Nepal-China border in Mustang. The visit aimed to assess the conditions and operations of the area.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Loghekar Damodarkunda rural municipality Chair Lopsang Chhompel Bista and Korala-based Immigration Office Chief Prabesh Baduwal provided a briefing to the visiting team regarding various issues related to the border point. During the visit, the delegation inspected several facilities, including the temporary building of the Immigration Office at Korala, the Mustang Customs Office at Nhechung of Lomanthang-2, and the Border Outpost of the Armed Police Force.
Customs Office Chief Ramesh Khadka discussed the challenges faced by his office with the team. Discussions were also held about managing the Lomanthang-based Area Administration Office and the Immigration Office.
Chair Bista suggested facilitating the process of obtaining a Chinese visa locally to make it easier for Nepali citizens to visit China. He proposed the issuance of Chinese visas from Mustang itself to promote tourism and enhance the activity at the Korala Border Point. Additionally, he called for the removal of the entry fee requirement for foreigners in Mustang.
In response, Home Secretary Dangal committed to developing Korala as a Nepal-China international border point. The government has allocated over Rs 30 million for the construction of a permanent immigration office in Mustang, with the local chair promising to find a suitable location for the facility. Dangal assured that efforts would be made to manage the necessary infrastructure and develop the route as an approach to Kailash Mansarovar, Shigatse, and Lhasa.
