Kathmandu: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stated that the Teej festival serves as an opportunity to advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment. She conveyed her hopes that the festivities would inspire efforts to eliminate discrimination and contribute to the creation of an equitable society.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Former President Bhandari shared her message of best wishes through a social network, addressing all Nepali sisters on the occasion of the Teej festival. She expressed her belief that the celebration would enhance sociocultural and familial bonds.
Bhandari emphasized that Teej is an integral tradition reflecting lifestyle, culture, and tolerance. She highlighted the custom where married women observe fasting, wishing for the longevity and good health of their spouses. The gathering of married daughters with their parental families and childhood friends strengthens societal and familial connections, she noted.
The Former President also advised participants to practice frugality and preserve the festival by safeguarding religious and cultural values.
