Karnali: The province government has been deprived of expert suggestions with three thematic committees of the Karnali Province Assembly awaiting leadership. The Public Accounts Committee, Finance and Natural Committee, and Social Development Committee of the province are without leadership.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Finance Committee has been without a chairperson since last April, while the Development Committee has lacked leadership since mid-July, and the Accounts Committee has been without a leader since last September. The absence of leadership has resulted in four bills remaining undiscussed, as the committees, which are responsible for monitoring government activities and holding authorities accountable on matters of public importance, have turned dormant.
Karnali Province Assembly Secretary Jibraj Budhathoki noted that although the senior-most members could be assigned to undertake the committee’s work in the absence of a president, this has not been implemented in Karnali. This
lack of action has contributed to the stagnation of legislative processes and the province government’s inability to receive expert advice necessary for effective governance.
