Kathmandu: Three police personnel injured in the violence that took place during the Gen-Z protests have died. Nepal Police Central Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police Binod Ghimire, confirmed the deaths.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Sub-Inspector Milan Rai and Police Constable Uttam Thapa of Maharajgunj Police Range, along with Police Constable Amrit Gurung of Koteshwor police office, passed away while undergoing medical treatment. This development increases the death toll since the protests began on September 8 to 22. Initially, 19 youths were shot dead by police on the first day of the agitation, and more than 400 others sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, Ghimire revealed that more than 13,500 prisoners and about 500 detainees have escaped from various prisons across the country. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those who have fled.
