Kathmandu: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has resumed operations for 18 hours daily, effective today. Previously, TIA had restricted its operation hours to 10 hours per day for five months to facilitate runway upgrading works. With the new schedule in place, the airport will operate from 6:00 am to 12:00 midnight, according to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the construction of a link way from the Taxiway to the runway has been completed, although the construction of a parallel taxiway is still ongoing. This work is part of the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project, overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The project also includes the construction of the South-West Parallel Taxi Way, an International Apron towards the northeast, and a Hangar Apron towards the east.
The entire project is projected to cost approximately Rs 15 billion, with reports indicating that 90 percent of the work has been completed so far. However, it is anticipated that it will take another year and a half to finish all project components.
