Tokyo: The Tokyo Saptah Mahayagya, a week-long religious ceremony, has commenced in Tokyo, Japan, aiming to raise funds for constructing the ‘Integrated Nepali House: Multi-Cultural Centre.’
According to National News Agency Nepal, the event is organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Japan, in collaboration with various organizations of the Nepali diaspora. The program, which kicked off on Saturday in Shinjuku, Tokyo, features Pandit Dinabandhu Pokharel and Buddhist guru Tulku Sonam Garwang Rinpoche, who will be narrating stories and legends from the scriptures.
Subash Lamichhane, President of NRNA Japan, shared that the Saptah Mahayagya was organized to strengthen unity, fraternity, and mutual relations among Nepalis in Japan and to promote spiritual reflection among the younger generation. He emphasized that while the primary goal of the Saptah Mahayagya is to collect donations for building the Integrated Nepali House, the purpose extends to engaging people in virtuous deeds by fostering harmony, peace, and positive feelings among Nepalis.
Nirvana Niure, former president of NRNA Japan, stated that the Mahayagya aims to gather funds for constructing a building on land already purchased in Chiba Prefecture, Tokyo, for establishing an Integrated Nepali House and multicultural centre in Japan.
The organizers believe the Mahayagya will be a significant step in promoting Nepali art and culture in Japan and in passing on, to some extent, Eastern philosophical traditions to the Nepali diaspora in Japan.
