Traffic Police Intensify Safety Campaign for Festive Season in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu:Traffic police have launched a comprehensive road safety awareness campaign throughout the Kathmandu Valley as the major festivals Dashain and Tihar approach, bringing an expected increase in traffic and passenger movement.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has intensified its efforts to prevent road accidents, ensure smooth travel, and encourage responsible driving during this busy period. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suresh Prasad Kafle, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, stated that awareness programs are being conducted at various locations to minimize road mishaps and provide a safe travel environment.

The campaign focuses on busy passenger areas, major roads, and key transport hubs. Special attention has been given to areas such as the New Bus Park, Nagdhunga, and Koteshwor, where traffic police have increased surveillance to manage the festival rush. The New Bus Park serves as a major departure point for long-distance public transport, while Nagdhunga and Koteshwor are key entry and exit points of the Valley.

Traffic police are educating drivers and passengers on both long- and short-distance routes about traffic rules, road safety, and responsible behavior. They are also conducting mechanical inspections of vehicles and checks for driving under the influence to minimize accidents.

SSP Kafle emphasized the importance of safe vehicle operation and compliance with traffic regulations, especially with the increased passenger movement during festivals. The traffic police’s primary objective is to reduce road accidents by combining traffic management with public awareness initiatives. Preventive measures and public education efforts are prioritized to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely during the festive rush.
