Travel Ban Imposed on Ex-Gulshan OC Mazharul and Wife Over Graft Allegations

Dhaka: A court here has imposed a travel ban on former officer in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station, Mazharul Islam, and his wife, Laila Khan, over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on February 10, granting a plea by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Assistant Director Bishan Ghosh of the ACC filed the plea in the court. The ACC in its plea stated that the agency is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth against the couple. The plea added that Mazharul has deposited a significant amount of ill-gotten money into the accounts of his wife, and they were attempting to flee the country.

Mazharul Islam was arrested on September 17 from the APBn and Specialized Training Center (ASTC) in Khagrachari and is currently behind bars.
