Dhaka: The government has suspended two Additional Superintendents of Police (Addl. SPs), Shahidul Islam and Sadek Kawsar Dastgir, from service under section 57 of the Public Service Act, 2018.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued two separate notifications on January 19 regarding the suspensions, which were signed by Secretary Nasimul Gani. The suspended officers are Shahidul Islam, Addl. SP of the 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBn), and Sadek Kawsar Dastgir, Addl. SP at the In-Service Training Centre, Sherpur.
The notifications detail that Shahidul Islam’s suspension, effective from October 30, 2024, is in the public interest as per the provisions of 39 (2) clause of section 57 of the Public Service Act, 2018. Similarly, Sadek Kawsar Dastgir’s suspension is in accordance with the same legal provisions, effective from December 12, 2024. During their suspension, both officers will be attached to different range DIG offices-Shahidul Islam to Sylhet and Sadek Kawsar Dastgir to Khulna-and will receive subsistence allowances as per regulations.
The notification follows the arrest of Addl. SP Shahidul Islam by Investigative Officer Inspector Pratul Kumar Shil of the Detective Branch (DB) of Cox’s Bazar on October 30, 2024, from the 16 APBn, Cox’s Bazar, in connection with a case numbered ICT-BD Misc, no-04/2024. Similarly, Addl. SP Sadek Kawsar Dastgir was arrested on December 18, 2024, by Investigative Officer Inspector Md Mursalin of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) of Sylhet from the In-Service Training Centre, Sherpur, in relation to a case filed on August 20, 2024, with the Kotwali Model Police Station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
