UGC Warns Against Unauthorized East Asian University Activities

Dhaka: The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has uncovered illegal activities conducted by an unauthorized private institution named East Asian University, which has been disseminating false information on its website (https://eaub.info/).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the UGC has urged students, guardians, and employers to be cautious and not to fall victim to fraudulent claims made on the university’s website. This warning follows a request made to the commission to verify the authenticity of a certificate issued by East Asian University, prompting the UGC to investigate further.

The investigation revealed that East Asian University is not listed among the government-approved private universities. In response, the UGC formed a two-member inspection team to assess the university’s on-ground activities at its purported location in East Merul Badda, Dhaka.

After conducting a site inspection on January 20, the team reported to the UGC authorities that East Asian University does not have a functioning campus at the mentioned location. Despite claims on its website that the university is endorsed by the Bangladesh government, UGC, Pharmacy Council, and Bangladesh Bar Council, the UGC report confirmed that the university operates entirely without approval from these institutions.
